Review: The Army Doctor’s Valentine Baby

Early Christmas morning Captain Naomi Grey is woken up by base security finds an abandoned baby. After naming the baby Holly she quickly becomes what ignites the chemistry and caring between Colonel Duncan Mackenzie and Naomi into a fully fledged forbidden love. They grow to love her as well as each other over the week that they care for Holly at Duncan’s ancestral home. After having to give Holly to a social worker they also find out that Naomi’s transfer is in and is leaving that day to a new assignment. Will they ever see Holly again? Can the new love, forbidden by Army rules and regulations, survive the distance?

The Army Doctor’s Valentine Baby is book #5 in the Army Doctor series. It can be read as a stand alone or in the series order. This is the first time I’ve read a book by Helen Scott Taylor and I found it to be a very heartwarming, sweet and short read. While I wish it would’ve been developed into a full length book the characters are developed just enough to make them real and believable.

Find it here on Amazon.

Trey and Aurora have hit the road with Catalyst for the Until Sanity Tour. For Trey, adjusting to life as a vampire while getting on stage in front of screaming fans every night proves difficult. The limelight forces him to do things he swore he wouldn’t, like feeding from the occasional fan. Keeping his secret from the band is harder than Trey expected, and the dull ache of hunger is always with him. Aurora tries to help Trey adjust while attempting to further her career from the road. She continues to paint, determined not to lose herself in the media maelstrom that comes with being married to Trey Decker.
But strange vampires are popping up at concerts, and the newlyweds realize they may be in over their heads. They owe a powerful vampire a favor, and he’s come to collect. But the price is too high, and Trey’s band mates are at risk of becoming collateral damage. Will Trey and Aurora be able to thwart the forces working against them and ensure that everyone they love is still around to share in their success in the end?
(Trey’s Point of View)
I hadn’t been on stage for all of five minutes when I felt the little buzz of power vibrating in the back of my skull. I was careful not to let it throw me off my game as I casually searched the crowd for the source. My first thought was that my vampire stalker was back, but she hadn’t generated a power buzz like this one. Aurora was backstage tonight – not like I’d mistake her power signature for anyone else’s – but it was clear that at least one vampire was standing in the crowd. When the song we were playing ended, I took my guitar off and walked back to the stand Chase and his drums were perched on. I grabbed a bottle of water and took a big drink, just to give myself some time to think. O’Shea started telling the crowd a story – leave it to him to fill in the silence – and I turned back around to scan for potential vamps again while he spoke. It took a moment, but I spotted him. He was sitting in the third row from the front, off to the left. He was even wearing a black suit, kind of like the ones the Emissary wear, but I couldn’t tell whether it had their emblem embroidered on the breast pocket or not. I met his gaze and held it, letting him know that I’d found him. He stared right at me in that way that vamps do when you just know they’re trying to read your soul, one wispy layer at a time.
He wasn’t just here for the show. That much was obvious. If he was Emissary, what on earth was he doing at a Catalyst concert? Certainly the Emissary had more important things to do than check up on Aurora and I, like tracking down Malena, for one. And if he wasn’t Emissary, well, that was even more confusing. I wished Aurora were sitting there in the front row. At least that way I would know she was trying to decipher the same questions I was. At least that way I would know she was safe. Instead, she was enjoying the show on a screen from the backstage lounge tonight, while simultaneously snapping pictures of several paintings to upload to her website so she could ship them back to The Waking Moon.
Then I realized there were two of them.
The second one was dressed like the first and was sitting in the lowest section off the floor to my left. He met my gaze as well, and I had to force myself to look away so the camera wouldn’t catch my stare-down on the big screens. O’Shea’s voice broke through my thoughts, and I heard him asking the crowd if it was okay if we slowed things down for a minute. The cheering that resulted was my cue to at least try and forget about the vamp in the crowd.
Like that was going to happen.
I set my water bottle down by my mic stand and leaned into the mic. “Let me see those cell phones in the air,” I said as the guys starting playing the intro to “Sweet Disguise.” I strapped my guitar back on and waved one hand back and forth to direct the crowd until the verse began. As I sang, I scanned the crowd again for the mystery vamps but they were both gone. I tried not to worry about it, not to wonder where they had gone and why they’d left in such a hurry, but it was easier said than done. I couldn’t for the life of me imagine why they were here. Even if I’d wanted to warn Aurora, I wasn’t capable of sifting through all the thought trails in the building to find hers. I’d tried on several occasions, but I could never quite manage to hone in on her specifically through all the energized, almost frantic thoughts, coming my way – more than half of which were about me.
The rest of the set seemed especially long after that, which made me feel like crap. The crowd was really into us, and I did my best not to be distracted. I’m even pretty sure it worked, but I was more than relieved when we finished the last song before the encore. I made my way to the dressing room at last. Aurora was sitting at her laptop, and jumped up when we all came into the room.
“I’m ready, I swear,” she said, hurrying over to the makeup chair as Chase plopped down in it for his zombie makeover.
I changed into my tattered suit, suddenly feeling more than a little ridiculous about the paranoia that had rattled my brain throughout the show.
Aurora was here. She was fine. In fact, everything seemed fine.
I started to wonder if I’d seen the vampires in the crowd at all. It didn’t make sense, anyway. Why would a vampire make an appearance in the crowd just to completely vanish moments later? Maybe I really had imagined the whole thing. Maybe I was in worse shape than I realized. I made a mental note to down some blood from the stash first thing after we finished here. I couldn’t help but scan the crowd again for the vamps when I took the stage as a zombie for the encore. No buzzing power, and no Emissary-looking mystery vamps. I was mostly relieved, and I focused on giving the fans the best zombie performance I knew how to give. Aurora was waiting for me in the lounge and we headed for the bus together. It wasn’t until we were about to climb the bus’s steps that we both felt it at the same time.
A power signature.
Aurora froze, her foot hovering just above the bottom step. She looked over her shoulder at me and said, “We have a visitor.”

Trey’s band is recording a new album and with Aurora as his muse, Trey is writing songs like never before. Catalyst frontman Trey is no stranger to chaos, but even the life of a rock star couldn’t prepare him for the consequences of loving a vampire. Trey’s life is in danger; threatened by the very group he must join to stay alive. His struggle to continue his career and release a new album with the band is marred by events that force him to ask a powerful Synod Elder for help.
Aurora has to keep Trey alive until she can make him a vampire, but her own kind will stop at nothing to prevent it. The head of the Emissary is having her followed, and if she can’t figure out who is behind the violent attacks, Trey might not make it to the full moon. As Aurora battles her own kind, she’s also plagued by the risk she’s taking by changing Trey. Will her moon-given power be enough to carry Trey through the change, or will he be left floating in the wake of destruction?

about the author
imageI write fantasy for teens and adults. I’ve been creating stories for as long as I can remember. I’m also an avid reader, and I blame Amelia Atwater-Rhodes and her book “In The Forests Of The Night” for my vampire obsession. I absolutely love vampires and anything paranormal, but I enjoy fantasy of all kinds.
I’m addicted to Oreos and Raspberry Dr. Pepper from Swig. When I’m not writing I enjoy traveling, playing board and card games, killing zombies on the Xbox with my hubby, and spending time with friends and family.
Music has always been a passion of mine. I’ve been playing drums since I was 12. I also love playing guitar, singing, and going to concerts.
My favorite color is green, and the uglier the shade the better. I get bored of my hairstyle easily which has resulted in me having many looks in the last ten years.
I live in Southern Utah with my husband and son. I’m currently preparing for the release of the third installment in the Blood And Guitar series, Fangs And Fame, which will be out August 25, 2014.

Book Review: Lingering Echoes by Erica Kiefer

Synopsis from Amazon:

“You can’t change the past… no matter how much you want to.”

If only Allie Collins could go back to that tragic day one year ago, perhaps she could escape the guilt that haunts her. In reality, there was no altering her cousin’s death or the role she played.

Then she meets Damien Michaels, a dark-haired stranger on a dirt bike, who seems to watch Allie and know more about her than he should. Veiling his own secrets, including a mysterious scar and tattoo, Allie knows she shouldn’t trust him—especially as she digs up a past Damien desperately wants to forget. She also doesn’t believe in summer romances, yet she finds her attraction to him growing beyond his striking grey eyes. Too late, Allie discovers he is hiding a dark past that is far from over, endangering her life and those she loves.

My Review:

Beautiful, sad and heart breaking. You’ll need a supply of kleenex, chocolate and tea to get through this book. Lingering Echoes is filled to the brim of twists and turns with with an unpredictable ending. If you enjoy tales of survival, emotional healing than you’ll enjoy this book. Allie’s character in particular had the greatest show of character growth. She starts off seemingly cold hearted and aloof and by the end blossoms into the character that she could have been all along if not for last year’s tragedy.

I am a mother to two young children, who in turn keep me young. I live in Dublin, Ireland but, I’m originally from South Devon in the UK. I work full time in a pharmacy and write in all my spare time: in my lunch hour, when watching TV at night and anywhere the urge takes me.
I have always been interested in reading from a young age and then 2 years ago I was given a kindle as a present and it was the best thing that happened to me. I was able to read lots of books ever week and then I started to write reviews for all the books I read.
I took this one step further and started my own facebook page – Sparkling Pink Bookshelf. I intended to upload all of my reviews for the books I read. This was purely for pleasure and then I answered a post on facebook for someone to read for reviews and thought I had died and gone to heaven. I was reading about 7/8 books a week, the kindle made this achievable. I would read at any opportunity I could, even staying up til the small hours to finish a book. I loved it.
Then one day I was asked to beta read a book – I loved this side of it, it was so exciting. I have worked with a number of indie authors and have remained loyal to a few select authors and I beta read all their books.
After a year or more of doing this, I thought maybe I could write some of the stories that were in my head and I just decided to write and see what happened. I wrote about 70% of a story and then saw a post for the NaNoWriMo competition – to write 50,000 words in 30 days, I decided that this was a challenge I wanted to take and the Til Death Us Do Part series was born.
I am always thinking of situations that can be turned into a story and have started a few stories, which in turn will be completed and released to my readers.
I love to hear what my readers have to say about my work and please find my links below:
Thank you for your support and I hope you enjoy this series of books as much as I enjoyed writing them.

Blog Tour- Kairos

What if the enticing man who has just seized your every sense enlightens you to realms beyond our dimension? Can that spark of love withstand a war to protect mankind? Kairos: An Enmortals Series Novel by K. J. Coakley is the spellbinding novel that reveals that the deepest love need not be confined to the trappings of one world.

The first in a series of paranormal romances, Kairos swirls in mankind, magic, and mythology as it chronicles the first blush of yearning between Sulwen Macgregor, a shy and sheltered college senior, and Logan Thatcher, a mesmerizing former playboy with arresting good looks, an offbeat sense of humor, and an ironclad moral code. When the two meet, Sulwen has no inkling that she soon will embark on an odyssey that not only exposes Logan as other than mortal, but uncovers astonishing aspects of her own being as well.

As Logan saves Sulwen from fast-approaching peril, the two must discover if their love is truly without bounds and strong enough to fend off adversaries far more craven than they ever could fathom. With wild imagination, otherworldly passion, and heart-pumping action, Kairos goes where no human being has dared, all in the name of love.

I stand up and take his hand. He leads us
into a remote corner on the dance floor. The DJ has been switching it up
between techno and remixed pop, but I don’t mind. It has a good beat, and I can
feel my muscles warming up as I start to work my body with the rhythm. I raise
my arms and place them around his neck and scoot closer to him. My body is
rubbing against his with blatant carnality. I can play this game too, as long
as I don’t have to speak. My body is drawn to his, so it’s no effort to let my
wanton moves carry me away with the song.
“Logan. The name’s Logan Thatcher. No
more disadvantages. We’re on a level playing field, and I must say I’m enjoying
the game immensely.”
I turn my back to him and swing my arms
back over his head and secure my fingers behind his neck. He hisses between his
teeth as my ass bumps his groin. I purposely do it again and nudge his slightly
erect penis with the cleft of my ass. A current tingles through my body at the

dance. My body slithers over his like a snake up a tree. I can’t stand any
distance between us. I want to touch him, feel his hard muscles beneath his
velvety skin, and bask in his growing erection as I brazenly press myself
against him. His breathing has picked up, and he begins to run his hands up the
sides of my thighs and under the hem of my dress. He goes no farther but teases
my senses with feather-light touches, and then he runs a hand up the back of my
thigh and squeezes my ass…hard. I gasp in surprise, but the move only heightens
my desire.
“You’re playing with fire, brave one. I may not be an animal, but I’m still a man, and you are provoking a hunger so strong it’s all I can do to keep from driving myself deep within you,” he growls in my ear. His warm breath on my skin sends an electric jolt down my neck and across my belly. My womb clenches as moisture gathers between my legs. His hand is now massaging my bottom, while his other one climbs up my stomach and skims across my breasts, brushing up against my hard nipples, and pulling a
strangled gasp from my lips.
“Logan. What are you doing to me?” I say
breathlessly. I’m shocked by my voice. It sounds so husky and leaden with lust.
He places both hands on my hips and pulls me into his fully erect cock. He’s
thick, hard, and ready for what I would willingly give.
Blunt teeth graze my neck where it meets
my shoulder and work their way back up, nibbling on my sensitive flesh.
Masculine hands press into my hips, working down my belly to the apex of my
thighs. I inhale sharply at the contact and tremble in his arms. A throaty
chuckle next to my ear melts any defenses I have left.
His warm breath is doing amazing things
to the delicate shell of my ear. Hot and moist, his tongue slowly licks up the
skin behind my ear and then slowly works back down. A hard shudder works
through me as the burn building between my legs mounts to a frustrating peak. I
need release, and I want it now.
His right hand trails a path under my

arms, but he has me held securely against his rock-hard body. My back is to

Out of Agony Blog Tour

 OUt oF Agony Tour

Gliterary Girl Book Tours presents the blog tour for the release of OUT OF AGONY, Book #4 in the Starting Over Series, by Author Lynette Endicott.

Brian Van Pelt has barely survived an anguished year of loss, hiding his sorrows under the facade of a cool and uncaring attorney. Not able to deny his grief any long, heartache drives him to collapse and his life takes an unexpected turn.

When Jessie Ingram comes to work at his law firm, she is intrigued by the conflicting darkness of Brian’s behavior and the tender inconsistencies that hint at something deeper within him.

Despite her interest, she has her own pain, supporting her niece Sara, who has a virulent cancer with aggressive treatments that take such a toll they would not be worth it — except they are Sara’s only hope of survival.

Will life’s hardships bring Brian and Jessie together? Will they be able to heal and possibly find love?

The flashing lights and whining siren caught Brian at the light. He stood at the crosswalk to the office and watched them, mesmerized. His mind placed him in that early spring evening more than a year before. He’d clambered into the front seat of the ambulance, sure if he could be close to Trudy he could somehow change the horror that engulfed them. Those same flashing lights had bathed them in alternating red and white light.

His daughter lay still in the back. The paramedics worked over her, efficiently ran a tube down her throat to get oxygen into her system, started an IV, and connected the heart monitor. When they arrived at the hospital, they ushered him into a room and told him to wait, and the doctors would be with him soon.

He blinked, shook his head, and jostled with the crowd across the busy street. For a moment, he had been right back in the nightmare. He must get a hold on himself. He decided to take the stairs. Jogging up them would clear his mind. It was only three stories… plenty of time to make his meeting with Will and the new associate.

“Brian? Brian, are you with us?” Will Barnes gave an awkward laugh, and his words brought Brian back to the present. He stood at the end of the table in the conference room at the office. How had he gotten there? The last thing he remembered… A bead of sweat slipped down his spine. He could swear he’d been in the hospital where Trudy died. But that was months ago, more than a year ago now. A flashback, like his brother, a veteran of Afghanistan, sometimes described? Or maybe it was a dream? He was wide awake, but he could still hear a hospital intercom, stifled in the background. Or was Will speaking? He stared across the long table at his boss, and panic rose in his gut. He watched Will’s mouth move but the words sounded muffled and far away. What was happening to him? He reached out with both hands to grasp at the edge of the table. The room tilted into a slow spin. A woman sat next to Will. She jumped to her feet and moved toward him, but she seemed to move in slow motion. He had seen her somewhere before. Who was she? The last thing he saw was her hand as she reached for him, but when he reached back for her help he lost his balance. His knees gave way and the sensation of falling gripped him. He fell into a deep, dark pit and she couldn’t save him.

But it’s hard for them to champion the rules when they don’t live by them. Their love is forbidden by official decree, and with every illicit touch, they edge closer and closer to discovery and disaster. Despite their good intentions, they’ll find out that sometimes love doesn’t conquer all.

In fact, it might just be the very thing that destroys them.

My Review:

We are returned to the world of Ma’jah KyrVawn the Ascendant of Alamertria and Dem-Shyr TaeDane, the man who loves her. Forbidden love and an unknown witness to a kiss exchanged from Kyr and Ty starts a machiavellian chain of events.  Upon their return from their respective life lessons they discover that VycorDane, the power hungry Advisor to the Guardians, has managed to twist the political structure of palace. He seems to hate Ty and resent Kyr’s position of power.

This just might be better than the first in the series. In Rout of the Dem-Shyr, Book two of the Ascendant series,  the world and her ever evolving cast of characters is just as richly detailed as the first book. I wasn’t ready for the ending and am now very anxiously awaiting book three.

Review: Forbidden by Angela Ford

Forbidden is book two in a new series by Angela Ford. I read this as a stand alone, however, it does reference certain events from book one which made me wish that I had read that as well. It’s a short and quick read that I wasn’t ready to have end.

The story centers around Supervisory Special Agent Jessica Resario. At one of her normal parent seminars on cyber safety she is introduced to the anxious parents of Tiffany Bennett. After agreeing to look into their daughter’s online interactions she discovers that Tiffany is a victim of an Internet Predator. What follows is the team’s nonstop action packed race to save Miss Bennett.

I’m looking forward to reading more by Angela Ford. I have high hopes for a book three. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

High School can be a witch.

A teen girl with the ability to ‘see’ people before they die shouldn’t need to lie constantly to make life sound interesting, but that doesn’t stop Emily from spinning stories faster than she can keep up.

After transferring to a new school, Emily’s ‘dull’ life is shaken to the core by the appearance of Noah, a boy not rattled by her tall tales and with secrets of his own. A too-handsome-for-his-own-good senior, Noah needs Emily’s special gifts to save him from Sarah, queen bee of the school’s ‘It Girls’, whose own supernatural abilities force Noah into a life of silence and solitude. But when Emily tries to free him, things go awry, and she ends up on Sarah’s hit list herself.

Now, new friends and makeup tests are the least of Emily’s problems, and in order to keep Emily alive, Noah must suffer under Sarah’s spell. But as their feelings for each other grow, Emily and Noah find themselves on a collision course with Sarah and the ‘It Girls’ that will lead not only to the fight of their lives for a chance at romance, but also to a shocking revelation that will tie the teenagers together in ways Emily never imagined.

* * *

Romantically charged and eerily chilling, Something Like Voodoo weighs the choice of saving your life versus fighting for a life worth saving. This paranormal romance will put a spell on you.

I sighed heavily, preparing myself to step out of the car. This was it. The start of my next rotten school experience. Junior year, half done, and then just one more year to survive. I would take Dad’s advice and let this be a fresh start. Mainly, I wouldn’t try to make friends this time. That never worked out well. Just go to class, don’t talk to anyone, and go home. They key was avoiding eye contact. I could do that. I just needed to . . . get out of the car. That was the first thing.

So I did. I got out, boots crunching the snow, and slung my backpack over my shoulder. Then I focused only on the front doors to the main entrance. Get from here to there. That’s all I had to do. Tell some lady or some man at some desk who I was and pick up my class schedule.

Halfway there now.

Someone shouted, “Hey,” just as I walked into something solid.

“Ow.” I grabbed my shoulder and looked up to see what caused the damage.

Apparently something solid was someone solid.

“Watch where you’re going,” the solid person said.

Heaven help me, I looked up, instinctively, to see who was speaking. Staring back at me were the most intense cerulean eyes, framed by the darkest lashes, and a storm brewing in his gaze. Whoever he was.

So much for avoiding eye contact.

“I’m—I’m, uh, wow. Sorry.” I scurried past him, but he grabbed my arm, spinning back again. “Whoa! Look, I said—”

“No.” He shook his head. “I’m sorry. You’re new here?”

Being new was perhaps the worst thing to be in high school. “Um, no. I just skip school a lot.”

He laughed, the anger lines that creased his forehead earlier dissipating. “Come on, brat. I’ll show you to the office.”
